What Is Respite Care?

Respite care is a temporary senior living solution that provides professional assistance and supervision for older adults who need short-term support. Stays may be helpful for a variety of reasons, including recovery after an illness, surgery, or hospitalization; caregiver vacations; family emergencies; or simply as an opportunity to experience community living before making a long-term decision. Respite care guests receive many of the same services and benefits enjoyed by full-time residents, creating a seamless and supportive experience.

Who Can Benefit from Respite Care?

Respite care can be an excellent option for:

  • Seniors recovering from surgery, injury, or illness
  • Individuals transitioning from a hospital or rehabilitation setting
  • Family caregivers who need a temporary break from caregiving responsibilities
  • Older adults who require short-term assistance while family members travel
  • Individuals interested in experiencing assisted living before making a permanent move
  • Seniors who need additional support while regaining strength and confidence at home

Every respite stay is tailored to the individual’s unique needs, ensuring the appropriate level of care and support throughout their time at The Preserve.

Personalized Care in a Comfortable Setting

The Preserve is part of a healthcare campus that includes Mentor Ridge Health and Rehabilitation, giving guests access to a wide range of clinical resources and support services. This unique setting allows our team to coordinate care efficiently while providing the comfort and hospitality of a senior living community. Residents and respite guests alike benefit from an environment designed to promote wellness, recovery, and independence.

During a respite stay, guests may receive assistance with activities of daily living, medication management, mobility support, and other personal care needs. Our dedicated team works closely with each individual and their family to develop a care plan that supports safety, comfort, and personal goals.

Continued Therapy and Recovery Support

For many seniors, the transition from a hospital or rehabilitation center back home can be challenging. Through the Pathways at The Preserve program, individuals who require additional support beyond what their insurance authorizes may continue to receive assistance while coordinating therapy services designed to help them regain strength and function. Whether someone is rebuilding strength after surgery or recovering from a medical event, respite care provides a supportive bridge between healthcare and home.

My mother has been here since January 2025. We would give it 6 stars if we could. The care has been OUTSTANDING! The decision to place her was difficult, but we have no regrets.

She has dementia and does not advocate well for herself. EVERY time we come to visit, she is not in her room. She is out and about engaged in an activity, or watching TV with other residents.

She has been sick and has had outstanding care. The communication about any concerns is great. The cleanliness is very good both for my for my mother and for the building in general. We absolutely love the staff and the care given to my mother and entire family! We highly recommend it.
